Senator Graham supports the program that allows undocumented immigrants a path to legal residency if they make restitution by paying a $2,000 fine plus back taxes, provide proof of continuous employment, learn English and stay out of trouble with the law.
It still blows me away the logic on this concept. Why are we not enforcing the laws today? I understand they illegal immigrants are here and that the laws have been neglected for the most part to-date. However, why can't we start, today, enforcing those laws? These individuals are here illegally so they have broken laws in doing so. They have broken laws by forging government documents. Yet, if joe-American were to do the same, the book would be thrown at them. Why is the government so afraid to enforce the laws that are on the books today? Why does Senator Graham, who is a lawyer, not understand this?
I here that the numbers are too large to enforce. Bull! Enforce the laws against employers and the illegal aliens and even make those laws more punitive ... and these individuals will go back to Mexico. Problem solved. And it didn't take amnesty, new laws or even new social programs to solve this. All that is needed is to enforce the laws. We wouldn't even need this 370 mile wall, that the immigrants are merely just going to walk around anyway.
I even saw Senator Graham on a show recently, which I wish I could find the transcript for. He was talking about immigration and how the legislation should solve the problem. He said something to the effect that the purpose of laws is to judicially find a fair treatment to a situation. Bull again! The purpose of laws is to punish a type of behavior that has been determined to be inappropriate by society. If anyone can find this transcript please send it to me.
We don't need amnesty, Senator Graham, we need enforcement of the laws!
